...or does the same-sex section of this wedding planner's "services" page start off a bit clueless (though apparently well meaning) before veering into crassly offensive territory?

I quote:

Same-sex weddings have a reputation for flamboyance and extravagance, and rightly so. Wecater for all aspects of the ‘wedding’ even down to finding an outfit for the happy couple’s Chihuahua (I kid you not). This includes transvestite and transexual weddings with the ‘bride to be’ taken through every aspect of ‘her’ wedding in the same way I would with a female bride.

Yes. I think I've just answered my own question, haven't I?

Oh dear.

Sorry, there were too many misplaced apostrophes and misspellings for me to continue past the first paragraph. Attention to detail is one of the things you are looking for in a wedding planner, right?

I figure I'm lucky not to have read the rest.

Most of it reads like someone who is just out of school produced it with all sorts of starry-eyed excitement, I think. I think she might be about 24, or less, in which case serious cluelessness is excusable if she's open to criticism.

It depends on how they respond to a polite email pointing out their error, I think.

I think you're being extremely generous by describing it as starting off "a bit clueless" - I'd call the whole sub-section offensive.

I suspect that picking on a wedding planner who is actually offering a same-sex service in Ireland, whether or not they use the perceived-to-be-correct language to describe it, is counterproductive for everyone concerned. Why not write "polite letters" to every tabloid newspaper and ignorant talk show host and sermonizing priest you can find who are out there expressing genuinely, shockingly homophopic and ignorant views, rather than someone who may just be a little silly and/or verbally unsophisticated?

There is evil out there in the world but this is not it. It's nothing but a soft squishy target.

In my humble opinion.

I don't want to appear too combative and sometimes express myself too strongly in the wrong places so I do apologise in advance for any reactions to the dissent by the way. Don't mean to offend anyone & I know this is your private journal Lean & you are not necessarily thrilled by me coming along & contradicting you. Mostly I can avoid it but if I feel I'm being asked a question...
