Answers to questions

[livejournal.com profile] leedy: Oh, it's so hard to choose! He's fairly unremittingly cute (asserts the unbiased observer). But possibly my favourite thing in the past few days is that every time the kitchen timer goes off he looks around, announces "beh-beh!" and holds out his finger, and we have to lift him up so he can press the button to turn off the beep-beep. The look of anticipatory concentration as he does this SLAYS me.

[livejournal.com profile] socmot: Oh, bollocks. I don't know what the blue buggering fuck I'm going to do when that cunt-scraping, arse-boggling day arrives. And it will. We're not exactly a pure-tongued household. I suspect I'll fall back on the linguist's line that words are tools: one should have at one's command a wide range and learn to distinguish when it is appropriate to use each one. I confess that I am trying to model a less obscene idiolect, but I don't (it turns out) feel impelled to stop swearing completely. What I almost certainly won't do is forbid certain words, because that's (in my view) a mug's game.

[livejournal.com profile] felinitykat: Firstly, squee! Secondly, it all depends, really. Afternoons are good if you're interested in Oysterage. Evenings are good for Oyster-free interaction, although Big Nights Out are not so feasible while I still have to be around for the late feed. But very pleasing effects can be achieved, I find, with the judiciously placed dinner date. A range of possibilities will no doubt present themselves closer to the time :-)

[livejournal.com profile] glitzfrau: Yes, absolutely! Sorry - meant to set your mind at rest on this score much sooner. Furthermore, we could work out a swap, if you prefer - perhaps you have a spare few balls of something that would contrast pleasingly with the black?

[livejournal.com profile] puritybrown: Indeed we are. Date still under discussion, but it looks as though it may be Friday 23 December. Watch this space!

[livejournal.com profile] biascut: Cry, gnash a bit, do some sums...

Er - remind me again what I asked?

Heh. I wonderered if you'd remember! Fear not: it was about swatches not coming out at the right size :-)

Are you swapping your child for some yarn?

Are you the stitch-n-bitch Vicky Pollard?

Nonono. Notatall. Nono. I mean, obviously, I'm not. (But you should see Helen's stash...) No. No ma'am. Keeping the child, stepping away from the yarn.

I think we can probably work out some happy medium. Also, not quite yet, but very soon I'll be able to say "I'm going to Dublin next month". Hooray!

If you say that sooner than January, those of us not getting visited til February will want to know why. Okay?

*whistles*, *looks at feet*

(I did the same as you, essentially -- Ryanair were offering flights to Dublin for A POUND.)

On babies first swear-word

[personal profile] ailbhe 2005-11-25 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
We've attempted to cut out swearing altogether and it's gone for everything except actual *swearing* in anger. And no, we won't forbid certain words... but we will forbid their inappropriate use. And explain what they mean. Hah.
