When they say "eating for two", they are not joking. [livejournal.com profile] niallm shyly revealed recently that he sometimes just sits and watches me eat, marvelling at the sheer volume of food I can make disappear. This day last week (when we still had no DSL), I kept a note of what I ate.

I started with my standard breakfast: a very large bowl of porridge, cooked with crumbled pecans, raisins and cinnamon, then further enhanced with some honey, a chopped banana and a handful of chopped strawberries. With this, I had a glass of juice (to wash down my supplements) and a pint of water (on general principles).

By 11:00 I was doubled over with hunger pain and barely coherent, so I wolfed down a small bowl of muesli with rice milk, then grazed for the next hour or so on a handful of mixed nuts and seeds and a sesame and honey bar.

We lunched at the local caff, which does a fine all-day breakfast. Between my plate and Oisín's leftovers I had two rashers, two sausages (sorry, pigs), two fried eggs (sorry, hens), a portion of baked beans, half a slice of toast, six or seven chips and a large glass of water.

After lunch we went grocery shopping, and when we got home I chugged a pint of water and had some juice and a cracker while I started dinner. For dinner, I had - count them - THREE chicken fillets (I ate two of the four, and then finished Niall's and Oisín's), a couple of roast potatoes, about half a large beetroot, half a medium sweet potato, and a pint of water.

After the boys were in bed, I had a sizeable helping of strawberry and blueberry clafoutis (thank you, [livejournal.com profile] micheinnz by way of [livejournal.com profile] ailbhe) and a final pint of water. (I should've had a lot more water over the course of the day - my vigilance has slipped.)

Fiachra, for his part, and following the trend of the previous day and night, fed. And fed. And fed. And fed. And fed. He's looking well on it, I must say.

I used to count calories to make sure I didn't eat too much. Now if I'm buying a packaged lunch or snack, I check the calories to make sure it will be enough.

I think Charles is slowly reducing his intake ... except when he's ill, or his routine is disrupted. If he self-weans before I'm ready to try for his sibling, I might be able to rediscover what I need to eat just for me.

I ate more than twice what anyone else did at dinner, and I'm about to have a bagel and some cake and some tea.

But I am also bleeding, which means I need more carbs.

But I seem to have stopped shrinking, I think.

You are most welcome for the clafouti; I think it is a fine thing, and there should be more of it in the world.

Reminds me; I could make one to use up some apples that are past their best.

And yes, I remember the "eat the world" times. Never get between a breastfeeding mother and food.
