It's not getting any sparser, my Things To Do Marked Urgent list. I think my days have shrunk, or something.
The full whine
My new job requires bucketloads more headspace than the old one, this is our busiest time of year anyway, plus I've moved to a desk where my monitor is obliquely visible to a colleague - none of which is conducive to LJ updating at work. I'm way behind schedule anyway, largely because of extra admin on foot of the promotion, and it's going to be fairly headlong for the next three or four months at least.
At home, I've been in a ridiculous whirl of activitiy for ... oh, as far back as I can remember. June was the most choral month I've had in years (two concerts with my regular chamber choir, six services with my church choir and two concerts with the octet I was depping for - one might almost begin to get tired, you know). I haven't written any novel in fucking ages. There are so many urgent things requiring to be done right now or preferably last week that the only possible response is to collapse in a big heap and wait for the ever-patient
niallm to feed me tea and tell me that it's all going to be OK.
On the good side, we've started watching Babylon 5 round at
olethros's, which is exceptionally cool. Yes, this is the first time I've seen it - so no spoilers, please! We've seen eight episodes so far (strictly chronological, which should come as no surprise to those who know me), and I'm delighted with it.
Also, Niall's study now has a rather excellent new woodstrip floor, and it turns out I can cut complex shapes in skirting board with my jigsaw, which rocks harder than many of you will appreciate.
Look at me now: 1.00 and I'm still not in bed. I managed to get one of the five things on my Do Without Fail This Evening list done (a backdated entry in my other journal), but the other four move up a notch in the Terrifyingly Pressing stakes.
Sorry for moaning. I miss you all, and I want to get back to updating regularly, but at the moment we're still in still wild-flailing mode. I'd love to say "watch this space", but...
You know how it is.
G'night.
