"...should it be necessary..."
Mar. 18th, 2003 11:23 amThat (or something similar) is what Jack Straw said in his Commons statement yesterday. As if there's any doubt that this war will be deemed "necessary" by those in whose interests it is to wage it.
The War Porn factor on most of the news coverage has been sickening. In general I've been tuning out. Watching Our Man In The Desert reports induces feelings of rage and helplessness that I know are neither useful nor healthy.
Compared to the majority of the world's population, however, we in Ireland are anything but helpless. The least we can do,
glitzfrau and I have decided, is raise some money for one or more aid agencies working with victims of this war.
A plain old raffle, to start with, and perhaps some sort of bring and buy sale. The thought of how tiny this effort will be in the face of what's happening is appalling, but more appalling is the thought of doing nothing.
Suggestions on a postcard...
