1. Who's going to the Knitting and Stitching Show in the RDS next week? I'll be there with Oisín and Fiachra on either Thursday or Friday (leaning towards Friday, as we don't have anything else scheduled then). I'll also be there ALL ON MY OWNIO on Sunday - the facilitation of which being part of my birthday present from Niall (practically a tradition by this stage). I will probably want to be a big nerdy workshop attender for part of it, but it would also be lovely to see any of you.

2. Don't laugh: I've been reading a lot about Getting Things Done recently, and I'm inclined to give it a go. Does anyone have a copy I could borrow to decide if it'd suit me?

Ahahaha. I fear that the same might become true of a copy in my custody, if I'm not careful.

If I see [livejournal.com profile] mollydot this week and get it from her, then it can stay languishing for the moment. This does not, of course, dilute your proposal to come round - it'd be lovely to see you. This week is shaping up to be very busy, but let's arrange something soon.

Have a look at http://www.43folders.com/2004/09/08/getting-started-with-getting-things-done

I don't know whether it will work for you, but you might get some ideas out of it at least.

From what I gather online, it's lists and lists and lists and lists and lists about lists and lists of lists and lists between and under and alongside lists. Basically, you stop trying to remember stuff in your head, and commit it all to lists instead - lists of phone calls to make, errand lists, project lists (with Next Actions decided at each turn). Feels as if it ought to suit my listophile mind rather well, but it also feels very ... unparenty. More for people who, by and large, get to decide what they're doing with the next 11 seconds. So I'm not sure. Hence request to try before I buy :-)

Merlin Mann, the guy behind 43 Folders, is a parent, and writes a lot about GTD. I'm not sure how much he uses GTD for parenting though. I suppose if you have your list of next actions, you can quickly decide what to do when you do have 5 minutes to yourself. I don't know how you're supposed to get that complete list though :-)

Cool! If Fri or Sun, I look forward to seeing you :-) (From experience, fwiw, Friday will be nicer than Sunday, which is likely to be PACKED.)

Haha, I've just bought a copy of GTD for myself, as I've used some of the ideas piecemeal in the last two years.

But I haven't read it yet, it's been there all month.

That's the danger, all right... (I bought your book and put it on my shelf, and I still haven't achieved Total Organisation! Wah!)

If any of your other GTD loan offers don't come off, I have one too.

Thanks! You actually use it, too, IIRC. What is it about it that works for you, as a matter of interest?

Two things, really.

1) Lists. Lists are godly, and allow me to make sense of the world. Lists are a lot of how I work things out already, so GTD fits well.

2) Getting stuff out of my head. When I look to my subconscious for something to think about, I want to get a new idea, not hey-I-need-to-write-that-4th-edition-campaign-I-won't-run-until-2009-at-the-earliest. With GTD, all that stuff is on paper (or electrons) and I get new ideas out of the black depths instead.
