I was going to post my result on a quiz, and then I read [livejournal.com profile] puritybrown's poignant classic, Holy fucking SHIT online quizzes SUCK, so I decided I wouldn't.

Then I remembered that I'm trying to practise Doing Things That People Have Criticised in the Abstract (to get over that pesky My-Existence-is-Predicated-on-Total-Irreproachability thing), so I decided to post the quiz result anyway.

Then I remembered that I'm not even on Purity's Friends list, so her peace of mind will not be sullied by my defiant gesture. Indeed, she need never know...

The answer to the quiz is, of course, bollox, but I did find myself chortling mightily at the questions.

Heh. Go you. Perhaps I'll do it after all; I wanted to, until I read her post, because I've always feared her being angry at me (I once didn't write anything for over a year because of something she said about my approach to writing, which I am pretty sure was based on a misunderstanding anyway).

I once didn't write anything for over a year because of something she said...

Wow. That's pretty scary.

It sounds very much like something I'd do, but in fact my confidence in my writing doesn't seem to be dented by how people view my approach. (It's dented by plenty of other things, but not that!) Perhaps it's because I started so young - writing has always been part of my life, and I'm pretty certain it always will be, so I can somehow accept such criticisms as opportunities to learn. Or thereabouts.

Dunno; I didn't start writing stories and poems until I was about 5, so maybe the young start makes the difference. But I think it's more to do with my having started, very young, seeing the vast, impossible gulf between the standard of what I could produce and the standard of what others could produce (ie, published others) and feeling quite sure that I would never, ever, ever...

Ah, now. Five's young!

I've always tried to combat Vast Impossible Gulf Syndrome by telling myself that all those others probably didn't know how good they were either... :-)

Five's not that young when you consider that I didn't ever tell stories - apart from actually lying, of course. I never made up stories to tell to the people around me, until after I started writing them down. Most kids do that shortly after they can talk, at least in my family.

Maybe if the quiz was about artists I'd fare better...

I went back and read [livejournal.com profile] puritybrown's entry, and where she said on line quizes were "an excuse to look at pretty pictures and read moderately humorous captions.", I thought well, D'uh!

So quiz away and ignore the grumps....

You might think, mightn't you, that this would be sufficient to convince the Inner Radzer that she is being silly.

But no, it turns out that your Puny Logic is no match for my Mighty Neurosis!

This is so about me, in other words, not [livejournal.com profile] puritybrown - whom I know in real life and like a lot, by the way - she just happened to press that particular button on that particular day...

Still and all, thanks for the encouragement!
