Yes, friends, I too have reached the depressing conclusion that so many journallers seem to come to eventually, after much denial:

If I don't read LJ at work I get stuff done.

In the past ten days or so, I've finally managed to shake off the grim blanket of lethargy that had been soaking into my bones (yes, a blanket can soak into your bones - don't contradict) and actually lay into my work with something like the gusto required to get it done. This is mainly a result of the abject terror factor: my Big Deadline is now but six days away...

We'll make it.

I think.

And then I can sit back, take a deep breath, and launch into all the work that's been piling up undone while I concentrate on this one thing. Happy happy joy joy.

Life on the whole is good, though. Pleasant things happen on a regular basis, my novel continues to zip along, my housemates are cool, and last night I had an idea that might turn into a sequel for my NaNoWriMo novel. Sometimes I love my imagination. I haven't been treating it very well recently, and it turns out that when I let it have its head it's capable of creating some rather pretty things.

(Tell me, am I the only person who is actually contemplating using NaNoWriMo as an opportunity to churn out a rough draft of a potentially publishable book? Is that utterly nerdy of me?)

I'm using it solely as an opportunity to force myself to start writing again. You never know, it might accidentally be publishable.

And I'm using it to force myself out of the Precious and Writerly mode of writing that I've fallen into over the years.

We'll do it. I have a good feeling about this...
