Well, the Mornington Singers programme -

(for the concert tomorrow evening, 8pm in the Pro Cathedral, Marlborough Street, Dublin 2 - fabulous programme of Eastern European music - never let it be said that I passed up an opportunity to advertise)

- is done and dusted.

As of 3:30 this morning.

When I grow up I want to be a better time manager. I've apparently inherited my father's incapacity on this front.

Every college essay I ever wrote was completed the night before the deadline, between 10pm and 6am (my sister, by contrast, sensibly adopted my mother's approach - she produces drafts, for chrissake). Now that I live and work in the Real World[TM], things should have changed, but they haven't.

It's of some comfort, granted, that I still seem to have the knack of producing fairly accurate, coherent work in such situations. I pay for it the next day, though.

Maybe I should just run with it - allow for the fact that my work patterns respond best to the adrenaline of an imminent deadline, and factor it in.

I'd rather have the option, though, of doing things the sensible way.

Suggestions on a postcard...

I'd go with your natural workflow too. Plan well and let the adrenaline carry you through the final surge. Although I like things to be finished in advance - I get far too panicky at last-minutism - I know that sometimes a late-night push can get a tremendous amount achieved. So long as you don't get stressed out by thinking you're procrastinating, but tell yourself that this is your own, legitimate, way of doing things.

That's it exactly. I have in fact got a lot better at this over the years (you'd better believe it - despite evidence to the contrary!).

Also, I'm taking tomorrow morning off, in a nod to good sense, so it's not too bad.
