So I log in to LJ for the first time in a couple of days, and what do I get?

Up at the top of the welcome page:

Fáilte romhat, a radegund!

And in the main section of the page:

Faoi LiveJournal

Is éard atá ann i LiveJournal ná uirlis fhurasta (ach fíorchumasach) le haghaidh foilsóireachta pearsanta ("blogáil" nó "[we]b logging") arna bhunú ar chláracha saorchóid.

Tá sé saor in aisce bheith páirteach sa suíomh seo. Tá an rogha ann d'úsáideoirí a gcuntais a fheabhsú agus acmhainní eile a fháil.

An bhfuil níos mó eolais uait?

Le do thoil, léigh ár gcoimriú acmhainní. Áititheach? Cruthaigh do dhialann LiveJournal féin!

And over on the right:

"Máááááá", arsa Frank.

I'm now on the Iontráil Nua page, which I chose from under Dialann; I can instead go to options under Riar, Cuardaigh, Cabhair and Eolas. They haven't got it all translated, which makes for a patchwork of English and Irish (e.g. "Security: Poiblí", "Fonn reatha: Pleased"), just like when I were a lass.

This rocks :-)

[For those of you who, tragically, haven't learnt Irish, that's what the weird stuff above is. I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy that the LJ folks cared enough to translate their material into a language spoken by pretty much nobody who doesn't also speak English. I'm particularly happy that Frank now bleats in Irish. That's attention to detail, that is.]

Wow! Thing I'll take a look at that, in the interests of learning some vocabulary.

i shall share in your glee.

but guess what? i have only Just This Instant realised that earworm is not some band you're obsessed with, which i've managed to assume ever since i first started reading your journal.

You're not alone! I actually asked [livejournal.com profile] radegund in person what earworm was, because I thought it was either an online radio station or a file-sharing thing and I wanted to check it out!

Bhuel. Ar dús, bain mé fosta usáid as Livejournal as Gaeilge, but then I changed it back to English, because I didn't understand a BLOODY WORD. Fool me. Woe!

SO WHY IS NOBODY LAUGHING AT YOU? hmmm? hmmm?

still. it's a good term and i'm gonna be using it myself now, and confusing more people. it definitely sounds better than "stuck in head".

I know! It's kind of like watching Ros na Rún. Don't rely on it implicitly, though - "foilsíireacht" isn't a word, as far as I know (should be "foilsitheoireacht").

Brilliant! We must forthwith form a band called "earworm" that does only covers of the stick-in-headiest songs in the world. I love it!

Oh, we did... But it was in person, so The Whole Internet didn't get in on the act.

As I said to [livejournal.com profile] socmot, it's like watching Ros na Rún. I'm loving the little details - like "Deimhnigh an litriú (Béarla SAM)", where "SAM" is the Irish for USA.

I will now Seol this Trácht. Whee!

Pardon me, as you don't know me, and vice-versa -- I just wanted to say that yes, it is a tragedy to have not learnt Irish, and some day I want to rectify that in proper classes, which are hard to find way out in the western U.S.A.

Glad LJ is on top of things.
