Afterwards

So much of the last couple of months has involved putting things on hold until "after the wedding", and now we're finally here. This is it, the new era, in which I don't have a huge To Do list glaring at me whenever I sit down. This is nothing but a Good Thing. (Yes, it was all fabulous. I'll write about it when I've collected my thoughts...)

Disjointed glimpses

* I'm way, way, way behind on my friends list, so it'll be a while before I'm back commenting regularly. I am reading, though. Big hugs to [livejournal.com profile] kasku and [livejournal.com profile] yiskah, who've been having some tough times of late. I hope things are better now, or at least heading that way.

* The cold that assaulted my defences last Friday really took hold once the adrenaline of the party had worn off, and I spent Monday and Tuesday buzzing unpleasantly through a mucousy haze, wishing that I could justify taking more time off work. But I couldn't, so I shouldered through, and got to the end of the week one way or another. My mood at times during the week scraped frighteningly low, but this evening I'm in very cheerful form, for reasons that are not entirely clear to me.

* Oisín has had mild but persistent diarrhoea for the last few weeks. The doctor has certified that he's well apart from this, diagnosing a reaction to food rather than an infection, so we don't have to leave work and take him home whenever it manifests, which is good, because that was getting awkward. But still, when I arrive at the crèche to pick him up, and Sue greets me with tensed eyes and her head on one side and says, "he had another runny nappy today", I feel like a Bad Mother. As if I could do anything about it.

* On the plus side, he is being particularly wonderful these days. I find myself reeling with adoration whenever I look at him. Recently acquired skills include passing things from hand to hand, pulling his socks off and removing people's spectacles (but not, alas, sleeping through the night...). We're also beginning to explore the world of solid food - albeit cautiously, on account of the diarrhoea. Mashed banana goes down rather well!

* My knitting fingers are itching. I've dug out some of my long-held supplies, and last week I went to Bray and acquired large quantities of new yarn (because you have to, really). I'll shortly be casting on a ribbed jumper in a smoky green cotton from the stash (with darker green and cream stripes, because I don't have quite enough of the main colour). We'll see how far this fit of enthusiasm takes me. If I'm lucky, I may have several new garments before I run out of steam.

* I got spam the other day from a Charity Guevara. I wish she was real.

* Some day soon I'll take out novel number 1 again. It's gathering itself in a corner, waiting for the right moment. When it starts to unfurl, I'll be ready for it.
